KERALA  LEGISLATURE - CHILDREN'S LIBRARY
  

  About

                    The   Kerala Legislative Assembly Children’s Library (KLACL) was inaugurated on  25 February 2016 by  Shri.K M Mani MLA, former Finance Minister, in a function presided over by Shri.N Sakthan, the Hon. Speaker of Kerala Legislative Assembly. Shri.Palode Ravi (Hon.Deputy Speaker),Shri. Thomas Unniyadan(Hon.Govt.Chief  Whip),Shri.V.D. Satheesan M.L.A., and Shri. P.D. Sarangadharan(Secretary, Kerala  Legislative Assembly)  participated in the ceremony. The KLACL shall function as Branch Library of the Kerala Legislature Library. The main objective of the Children’s Library is to inculcate reading habits among children and to enable them in accessing and sharing the wide and rare resources available in the Kerala Legislature Library. It also aims to impart knowledge in young minds on the Kerala Legislature. Particular emphasis shall be given to those Children of marginalized sections of the society who do not have access to good and resourceful libraries. The Library shall remain open from 10.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. on all working days.

 

 

 

 

 

 

  Membership

Children in the age group of 10 to 18 are eligible to be a member of the Children`s Library of Kerala Legislative Assembly.

The Children in the following category shall alone be admitted as Members of the Children`s Library

(a) Children/Grand children of Members of Kerala Legislative Assembly (MLAs), Ex MLAs, Members of Parliament (MPs) from Kerala and Ex-MPs from Kerala who are members of the Kerala Legislature Library;

(b) Children of permanent employees of Kerala Legislature Secretariat, General Administration,  Finance and Law Secretariat  who are members of the Kerala Legislature Library;

(c) Children of Journalists accredited to the Press Gallery of Kerala Legislative Assembly;

(d) Children belong to the under-privileged/ marginalised sections who are selected and recommended by the Members of Kerala Legislative Assembly;

(e) Children sponsored by recognized schools.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  Collection

The children’s library collection includes 

 Books, 

 Audio visual documents, 

 e-books, 

 Online resources.

Children's Library Rules 

 Rules applicable to Children’s Library in the Kerala Legislature Library Rules, 2006 (Amended as on 01-10-2015)

8 A. Procedure regarding functioning of Children’s Library.-

(i) The objective of Children’s Library shall be to inculcate reading habits among children and to enable them in sharing the wide and rare resources of the Kerala Legislature Library and Archives. Particular emphasis shall be given to those children of marginalized section of society who do not have access to good and resourceful library.

(ii) Children’s Library shall function as branch of the Kerala Legislature Library.

(iii) Children’s Library shall remain open from 10.30 am to 4.30 pm on all working days.

(iv) Children in the age group of 10 to 18 are eligible to be member of the Children’s Library.

 The following classes of children shall alone be admitted as members of the Children’s Library.

(a) Children/Grand children of Members of Kerala Legislative Assembly (MLAs), Ex- MLAs, Members of Parliament (MPs) from Kerala and Ex- MPs from Kerala who have obtained membership of Kerala Legislature Library;

(b) Children of the permanent employees of Kerala Legislature Secretariat, General Administration, Finance and Law Departments of the Government Secretariat who have obtained membership of Kerala Legislature Library;

(c) Children of the Journalists accredited to the press gallery of Kerala Legislative Assembly;

(d) Children belong to the under-privileged or marginalised sections who are selected and recommended by the Members of Kerala Legislative Assembly;

(e) Children sponsored by recognized schools.

(v) Application for the membership has to be made either in Form XIII or in Form XIV as the case may be.

(vi) Teachers, parents or other adults accompanying children may be allowed to visit the Children’s Library as visitors, but they will be permitted to stay only a period which is absolutely necessary, and the children will be left to themselves to make use of the library facilities.

(vii) Children will be provided Library documents viz. books, reference books, magazines and newspapers for consultation in the Library only.

(viii) Children will be issued e-literature viz. CDs/DVDs etc. for using in the Library only.

(ix) The categories of members mentioned in sub rules (a) to (e) of rule 4  are eligible to borrow books from Children’s Library subject to conditions laid down in rule 9.
