Entered politics while a students through K.S.U; held positions in K.S.U as Unit President, Thaliparamba Taluk Treasurer, Kannur District Secretary, State Vice President and State Treasurer; Was elected State President of KSU for 5 years from 1988; was University Union Councillor, Payyannur College for 4 consecutive years; was Kerala University Senate Member; Youth Congress State President from 1993 to 2000; was elected Member; PCC Executive.
Elected to KLA in 1996 and 2001.
