After graduating in
law; set up practice at Cherthala; joined
Communist Party in 1946 and got membership in
1947; actively participated in Trade Union and
Peasant Movements; was jailed on a number of
occassions for participating in political
activities. Was President, Kerala Karshaka Sangom
from 1960 to 1984; President, Kerala Mahila Sangom
from 1967 to 1976 and Secretary form 1976 to
1987; was Member C.P.I (M) State Secretariat;
Expelled from the Party in 1994; Formed
Janathipathya Samrakshana Samithy(J.S.S).
Served
as Minister for Revenue, Excise and Devaswom from
April 1957 to 1959; Revenue,Civil Supplies. Sales
Tax, Excise and social welfare from March 1967 to
October 1969; Agriculture and Social Welfare from
January 1980 to October 1981; Industries, Social
welfare, Vigilance and Administration of Justice
from March 1987 to June 1991.General Secretary,
J.S.S and Parliamentary Party leader.
Elected
in T.C.L.A. in 1951 and 1954 and K.L.A. in
1957,1960,1965,1967,1970,1980,1982,1987,1991,1996
and 2001.
