Born at Oliyapuram on 16th September 1950
B.Sc., LL.B, L.L.M (course completed), Lawyer
and Political Worker.
Entered
Politics while a student; became a Member of the
Kerala Congress from its formation in 1964;
actively participated in students movements
through K.S.C.; held positions of District
President, State Vice-President, General Secretary
and President of K.S.C. (1972 to 1975), General
Secretary of the Kerala Youth Front during
1975-76; President of K.Y.F. during 1976-78;
General Secretary of Kerala Congress during
1979-82 and 1987-91; served as President of
sevaral Trade Unions; Elected Member of the
Kerala University Academic Council
from the Faculty of Law; was Minister for
Education during 1982-87; was Minister for
Irrigation, Water Supply and Cultural Affairs
1991-96.
Recipient
of "GANDHI AWARD 1992" introduced by the
Mahatma Gandhi National Foundation.
Recipient
of "VIJAYA RATNA AWARD" for enriching
Human Life and Outstanding Attainment from the
International Friendship Society of India.
