Apu John Joseph was born on 31 May
1972 in Purapuzha, Thodupuzha, Kerala,
to the Kerala Congress stalwart and
former minister P. J.
Joseph and Dr. Santha Joseph. He
is a member of the Kerala
Legislative Assembly, representing
the Thodupuzha
constituency since May 2026. An
engineer by profession, he graduated
in Electronics and Communication in
the year 1994. Before entering
mainstream politics, he had an
illustrious stint as an agriculturist
and an IT professional both in India
and Europe. He worked at various
echelons of Kerala Congress before his
unanimous election as State
Coordinator of the party in the year
2023. He made his electoral debut in
the general election to the 16th
Kerala Legislative Assembly from Thodupuzha
constituency in Idukki district
winning by a thumping margin of 44,291
votes, securing more than 58% of the
total votes polled.
Following the
phenomenal victory of the United
Democratic Front (UDF), of which
Kerala Congress is the third largest
constituent, in the 2026
elections, he was appointed as the
Government Chief Whip of Kerala
with the rank and status of Cabinet
Minister and assumed the Office on 26 May 2026.
He is married to Dr. Anu George and
the couple is blessed with two sons,
Joseph and George. |
