Opposition Leader from 1960 to 1964, 3rd KLA from 1969 to 1970,  4th  KLA  from  1970 to  1977, 5th KLA from 1977 to 1978; 

Chairman, Committee on Privileges (1957–59) and (1967–69). 

Entered politics through Congress; State Congress Secretary in 1934 and during 1938, 1939; Communist Leader since 1939; General Secretary, Polit Bureau from 1950; General Secretary, CPI (1962-63) and Later CPI (M). 

Authored several Books, “The Mahatma and isms”, “ Kerala Yesterday today and tommorrow” to name only a few.
