RAMESH CHENNITHALA

Son of Shri. V. Ramakrishnan Nair and Smt. Devakiamma; born at Chennithala on 25^th May 1956; B.A., LL.B. (course completed); Social and Political Worker.

Started political life from early school days.  Served as State Executive Member, State General Secretary and State President of K.S.U.; General Secretary, Indian Youth Congress; the youngest Cabinet Minister (Rural Development) in the Ministry of Hon. (Late) K. Karunakaran.  Elected to Parliament from Kottayam three times in 1989, 1991 and 1996 and from Mavelikkara in 1999.  Was Member and Secretary of A.I.C.C. and President of K.P.C.C.  Was Member of the Congress Working Committee (C.W.C.), the party’s highest decision making body.

Was Member, Public Accounts Committee, Lok Sabha, Parliamentary Consultative Committees for Commerce and Finance, Parliamentary Committees for Labour and Welfare, Civil Aviation Consultative Committee, Joint Parliamentary Committee on Pesticide in Soft Drinks and Fruit Drinks; Member, Coir Board; Governing Body Member, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi; Central Secretariat Member, World Federation of Young Parliamentarians; President, Youth for Social Action; Secretary, Youth Movement for Non-Apartheid etc.

Previously elected to K.L.A. in 1982 and 1987.
