Elamaram on 1st July 1953;
Pre-degree; Social and Political Worker.
Entered
politics while a student; joined K.S. F. in 1971
and K.S.Y.F in 1973; served as a member of
Eranad Taluk Committee; joined C.P.I. (M) and
C.I.T.U in 1974; Secretary, Birla Kortam Pulp
and Fibre Workers Federation, Mavoor (up to
1979); Secretary, C.P.I. (M) Mavoor Local
Committee (1977-1986); Member, Mavoor Area
Committee (1989-1993), Kozhikode District
Committee (1991), District Secretariat (1998)
and Kerala State Committee (2005) of CPI(M).
Also held various positions in C.I.T.U. as
Secretary, District and State Committees; Served
as General Secretary, Kerala State Road
Transport Worker’s Federation and Secretary,
All India Road Transport Worker’s Federation.
Worked
under a Contractor in Mavoor Gwalior Rayons
Factory (1979 to 1981) and was regularised as a
casual worker by the company; left the company
service in 1986. During this period actively
involved in organising contract workers and had
an active participation in the indefinite strike
of G.R.S. Workers; participated in the march
from Mavoor to Trivandrum by foot in connection
with the strike and was jailed for one week.
Served
as Minister for Industries in the Ministry
headed by Shri.V.S. Achuthanandan (2006-2011).
Previously, elected to KLA in 1996 and 2006.
